Giovanni van Bronckhorst is set to miss out on one of his Rangers transfer targets, despite the Ibrox club having been in talks for him.

That’s according to Bild, who report Angelo Fulgini is set to swap Angers for the Bundesliga instead. The German newspaper explain the player’s representatives had been in talks with Rangers, and it’s even been reported the Glasgow club made multiple offers to Angers to try and get a deal done.

However, Mainz entered the scene, and the report says that during talks on Sunday evening, Fulgini was persuaded that his future would be better served with a move to the German club.

Bild say that after he made that decision, Fulgini then told Rangers ‘on Monday morning’ that he wouldn’t be moving there. He’s now expected to have his medical tests with Mainz before completing his move to the club.

Mainz are expected to pay as much as €7m for the signing, with part of that made up by bonus payments. It’s seen as something of a victory for them, given Rangers made it to last season’s Europa League final.
