On Thursday, journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported Liverpool have made an improved offer of £45m including bonuses to sign Roméo Lavia. The Reds are now joined by Chelsea in the race for the Southampton star.

This is again reported by Tavolieri, who took to Twitter to state the Blues have made a ‘last minute’ attempt.

The journalist states Chelsea are pressing for Liverpool target and their efforts to sign him will be ‘even more intensive’ in the next few hours, after failing to agree a deal with Brighton & Hove Albion for Moisés Caicedo so far.

Liverpool shouldn’t be worried about the west London club’s attempt because the 19-year-old is ‘still leaning’ towards making a switch to Anfield. The plan presented by the former, who can also offer European football, has convinced him and his camp.

Tavolieri says the ‘human aspect’ and the sporting project is key for Lavia’s family, who are ‘very conscious & reasonable people’.

Despite Chelsea’s latest attempt, Tavolieri states a ‘reversal of fortunes seems unlikely’. This indicates Liverpool are still in the driving seat to sign Lavia.

At the same time, Chelsea joining the chase could ‘well enable’ Southampton to obtain a deal worth £50m.
