Edon Dzeko to Chelsea is all over the Italian media, it’s gone quite crazy over the past 24 hours or so.
TMW have even set up a live blog on the move, and in their post at 12.17 they say the player will sign for Chelsea on Thursday, after perhaps playing for Roma tomorrow, and there’s ‘practically white smoke’ on the deal.
The Italian media are in widespread agreement this one is on the verge happening, and have been for a day or so now. Emerson Palmieri has been considered done for a day or so longer, and isn’t quite as exciting for Roma’s media.
Chelsea’s pursuit of a striker in this window has had quite a negative slant attached to it, which is probably what happens when Andy Carroll and Peter Crouch are linked, but signing Dzeko is a whole different scenario.
The Bosnian has scored 12 goals so far this season, and in the last campaign he managed 37 goals and 9 assists across Serie A and the Champions League. If Chelsea had been signing Dzeko in the last window, rather than after all the negativity attacked to their transfer business since, then it would have been considered quite a coup.
It still probably should be. Last season was a standout one for Dzeko in his career, but that’s a good thing, especially given that he’s carried on scoring goals.
Antonio Conte will now have a big choice to make between starting Alvaro Morata or the former Manchester City player.
