RB Leipzig’s Joško Gvardiol has revealed he has always dreamed of playing in the Premier League and also opened up about Chelsea’s approach in the summer transfer window.

The centre-back has enjoyed an impressive season with the Bundesliga side and also starred for Croatia at the World Cup.

RTL in Croatia sat down for an interview with the 20-year-old and one of the topics discussed was his failed move to Chelsea in the summer. Prior to that, the defender talked about Leipzig’s decision to keep him this season and the trust they have in him.

“Of course, I’m glad. I’m also happy for the club to achieve something great. I’m in no hurry, I’m at Leipzig, we have six months left to finish the season properly and to win something. And then we’ll look further for the future,” he said.

“I’m convinced of that because this summer it was close to a transfer coming true and they just kept me. We talked and they told me how much I meant to them, how much I meant to my teammates and the club and I was glad to hear that. I hope to spend these six months with them.”

Gvardiol was then asked whether the Blues, who came close to signing the defender in the summer, have not given up on him so far.

Responding to that, he said: “They did not give up, but it was agreed that we would go for the winter. Winter has come, so we need to see what and how to proceed, but it’s okay, there’s still plenty of time, we’ll see.”

Graham Potter’s side would be encouraged to know that he has opened the door to seal a move to England.

On the league he would like to play the most, the Croatia international explained: “Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always aspired to the English league. We all know what kind of league it is.”

“Whether I’m mature enough and ready for that league, I don’t know. We’ll see, when I feel that this is that moment, that I’ve crossed some level and reached the border in Germany, then I’ll look further.”

Manchester City have also been rumoured to be interested in the Leipzig star. RTL asked him if he would pick them over Chelsea.

“Well, I do not know. Nobody presented anything to me. No idea as far as I’m concerned. But I’m not in a hurry, we have time, let them arrange the plan and we’ll see,” Gvardiol stressed.
