It looks like the transfer of Chancel Mbemba from Newcastle United to FC Porto is just a matter of time now, Celtic and West Ham have both made attempts.

Once again speaking to the Portuguese press, the player’s agent has practically confirmed the defender’s transfer to the Dragons.

Speaking to newspaper A Bola on Thursday, Fabio Baglio has claimed that a deal is pretty close, and his part in the agreement is pretty much done.

“He’s very excited for signing with FC Porto. He’s waiting for an agreement between the clubs to travel to Portugal, to do his medicals and put a pen to paper,” Baglio told A Bola.

The agent also claimed that Mbemba has been ‘learning about Porto’s history’ and excited to ‘show himself in the Champions League’.

Speaking of the other clubs who the player had offers from, A Bola says they were Celtic, West Ham, Hoffenheim, Standard Liege and Anderlecht.

The amount Porto will be paying for the transfer still hasn’t been revealed.

Brendan Rodgers and Manuel Pellegrini had been credited with interest before now, and it may not be all over for Celtic and West Ham.

Whilst a move to Porto looks very close, at one point there was a similar situation with Anderlecht and they were then unable to agree a fee.
