O Jogo believe Alex Grimaldo has ‘opened the door’ to a transfer, after the Benfica player spoke to the Spanish media. Grimaldo, away with Spain’s U21 squad, said he couldn’t 100% guarantee he’d be with Benfica next season.

At the other side of the door Grimaldo has opened are clubs including Manchester City, Juventus, and Napoli, believe O Jogo, with the fullback retaining a good reputation despite missing a chunk of the season through injury.

Manchester City need fullbacks, and with Grimaldo coming through La Masia, he’d be well versed in Pep Guardiola’s ways. Links with Manchester City were strong during the first half of the season, and got a little carried away.

In September it was claimed in Portugal that Guardiola, and his brother, had taken a private jet to Lisbon to personally watch Grimaldo. The Manchester City manager hadn’t been spotted at any stage, which seemed odd, and Sport Witness were able to confirm the claims were nonsense, Guardilola hadn’t travelled.

Despite the false story, the links make sense. As long as he’s over his injury, Manchester City could do worse than add the 21 year old left-back to their squad.
