Ryan Gravenberch could have joined Manchester United this summer before his eventual move to Bayern Munich.

That’s according to Sport 1, who say the midfielder may still have United ‘in the back of his mind’ after a slow start to life in Bavaria.

Gravenberch joined the German champions in an €18.5m deal in July but has struggled for gametime with Bayern so far, with 11 appearances and 351 minutes all he’s managed.

It’s a situation he’s not happy about, openly revealing his dissatisfaction in September and again in comments to AZ this week.

The big issue for him is the lack of playing time ahead of the World Cup, where he was likely to be a part of Louis van Gaal’s squad but could not miss out.

His position at this moment in time means he ‘could hardly promote himself’ and he was only in the squad for the latest Nations League games because of injury absences.

It’s a frustrating situation for the player, who ‘could have moved’ to Manchester United with former boss Erik ten Hag in the summer.

That was recently revealed by Sport 1 chief reporter Kerry Hau “Die Bayern-Woche” podcast and there is a belief that ‘more playing time’ would have been available at Old Trafford.

Indeed, Sport 1 one believe that Manchester United may be ‘in the back of his mind’ at this point as he contemplates his current predicament and what might have been.

There’s no hint he will push for a departure or anything of that nature but the problem for him in Munich, the extreme competition in midfield, is not going to get better any time soon.

With the likes of Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and Marcel Sabitzer also vying for places, the only spot left is the backup role, something Gravenberch is clearly not happy with.
