São Paulo defender Luizão has turned down an offer from West Ham United, according to reports from Brazil.

Outlet Lance today writes that the defender, who’s out of contract with the Tricolor in January, has ‘surprised’ everyone behind the scenes by rejecting the bid.

It’s said that Luizão ‘did not follow his staff’s orientations’ and made ‘extra demands’ to sign a contract with West Ham. One of them is a fee paid to São Paulo for the transfer.

According to Lance, the Hammers did not like the requests, and that could take the talks back to the starting point.

São Paulo have always known there was a big chance the player would choose to leave the club for free in the coming months.

Still, after the match against Palmeiras at the weekend, they tried a final conversation to convince him of staying.

Now with the player turning down West Ham’s offer, Lance says that’s seen by the Brazilian club as a good sign, as they’re set to hold new talks for his renewal.

Lance writes that besides West Ham, the defender also attracted the interest from Benfica, Sporting, Porto, Fulham, Juventus and the Red Bull Group.
