Real Betis defender Álex Moreno has admitted he decided to turn down Nottingham Forest this summer as ‘the sum of everything’ favoured a stay with the Spanish side.
Moreno was linked with a move to Nottingham Forest throughout this month, with the club seemingly determined to sign as many full-backs as possible before the window comes to a close.
They had been hoping to close a deal for less than €20m but Betis rejected their advances, despite their need to bring in money to ease their financial situation.
Ultimately the move was rejected by Moreno, who publicly declared his decision to stay with Betis and seemingly ended any chances for Nottingham Forest to get their man.
Reports since have indicated that Steve Cooper and co have not given up their interest entirely but it seems they would be wise to do so, with Moreno discussing the transfer interest today and why he decided to stay where he is.
“I made the decision,” Mundo Deportivo report him saying.
“I think the sporting thing and the fact that I’m at a club that I love, that I’m happy at the moment.
“I’ve had bad times, good times, happy to have won a title and my aspiration is to continue at my best level. I am very happy to be able to stay here.
“I had to talk to a lot of people. In the end, the overall sum of everything was that the stability that I have and the ambition to continue growing at this club, and to continue winning things and aspire to more things, that it will be better at Betis.”
