Lucas Digne was linked with a move to France during the summer transfer window, with it felt by some that his time with Aston Villa was coming to an end.

Then he was largely a regular in the first half of the current season, but January still saw him linked with a move away. At that time there was thought to be interest from Saudi Arabia, a move that would have been financially beneficial for both the Frenchman and Unai Emery’s side.

That move didn’t happen, and after a period out injured from December to early February, Digne found himself replaced by Alex Moreno.

Sport, who have covered Digne extensively in recent years, report the player is ‘doing everything possible’ to convince Emery to put him back in the Aston Villa starting line up.

The fullback is looking for the ‘best version’ of what Sport call a great player.

Despite his chances of making Didier Deschamps squad for Euro 2024 being low, there’s always the outside possibility, and that will help add some motivation for the Aston Villa player.

Having Digne and Moreno fighting for a place can only be good for Unai Emery.
