If there’s one transfer that raised a few eyebrows over the summer, it was Leicester City’s sale of Kasper Schmeichel to OGC Nice.

The Denmark international had been a near immovable object at the King Power Stadium over a number of years, but was sold for €1m in early August and took a hefty pay cut to achieve it, according to L’Equipe.

He struggled at first away from Leicester, with claims he wanted to return and that his weight was an issue in the south of France.

All that has since been put behind him these days, as he is the number one under Didier Digard, but the aforementioned French newspaper reveal that he nearly halved his wages in the summer.

Previously earning more than €500k/month at Leicester City, the Dane is now ‘only’ earning €270k/month at Nice, making him the fourth best paid player in the squad, behind Terem Moffi, Gaetan Laborde and Arsenal loanee Nicolas Pépé.

Since arriving at Nice, Schmeichel has made 34 appearances in all competitions, conceded 31 goals and kept 11 clean sheets.
