Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic is ‘close to joining’ Manchester City, with a ‘verbal agreement’ already in place between the parties.

That’s according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, who says that ‘everything is going in the right direction’ in terms of a transfer happening.

Kovacic has been linked with a move away from Chelsea this summer ahead of an expected mass exodus following their lavish spending in the last two transfer windows.

The Croatian’s contract expires in 2024, so Chelsea need to sell this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer if he does not sign a contract extension at Stamford Bridge.

Several reports in England and Europe have indicated that Manchester City are eyeing him as an addition as they look to bolster Pep Guardiola’s squad and add a player who has vast experience under his belt.

Plettenberg now says that potential deal is very much on, stating that there is verbal agreement for Kovacic to move to the Etihad this summer.

That’s a major milestone overcome and negotiations between Manchester City and Chelsea are now expected to follow this week to make a deal happen.

There is no mention of a transfer fee or contract details at this point, but expect that information to come out sooner rather than later as this move seems to very much be on.
