Manchester United are struggling to convince Borussia Dortmund to let Jadon Sancho join them and have seen the Bundesliga club reject their initial offer.
Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembélé has emerged as an alternative to Sancho, and the Red Devils’ interest in the 23-year-old is not new.
Mundo Deportivo claim Barca sources deny there has been any negotiations with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side for the player. The La Liga club are now waiting to see whether or not United will make a final attempt to sign Dembélé.
According to RAC1 (via Sport), Dembélé has dropped down the pecking order and is the fifth choice player in the attacking positions. Memphis Depay’s potential arrival will make him the sixth choice.
Therefore, the Frenchman ‘begins to doubt his continuity’ at the Camp Nou because of the ‘open negotiations’ between United and Barca. The Premier League side asked to take the ex-Dortmund man on a loan deal, while Ronald Koeman’s side ‘would advocate’ for his sale.
His exit on a permanent transfer would lower Barcelona’s salary budget, and also help them fund signing Lyon’s Memphis Depay and Manchester City’s Eric García.
RAC1’s report contradicts Mundo’s claims as the former says the two clubs are involved in negotiations, while the Catalan newspaper explains Barca have denied any talks with United for Dembélé.
