Last Friday, we covered claims made in Brazil and Spain that Wolverhampton Wanderers are edging closer towards completing the transfer of João Gomes after their proposal was accepted by Flamengo.

The midfielder has not completed a move to the Molineux yet. Flamengo manager Vítor Pereira did not include him in the squad for his side’s 4-1 win over Portuguesa at the weekend.

SBT Rio journalist Venê Casagrande took to Twitter to insist the 21-year-old’s move to Wolves is ‘close to being made official’.

With an agreement in place between the two clubs, Casagrande further adds the Brazilian is waiting for the formalities to be sorted out to introduce himself at the Premier League side.

The player’s move to Wolves is expected to go through soon. After Flamengo’s latest win, Pereira was specifically quizzed about the need to find solutions to replace Gomes at the club.

“A coach is a person who has to find solutions. The issue of João Gomes is handed over to the board, our strategy is thought out by us and cannot be made public, it must be our thing,” Pereira said, as quoted by Terra.

“I’m sorry, but this must be dealt within the club. When everything is decided, they can speak.”

Julen Lopetegui’s side have signed Matheus Cunha in January and he will soon be joined by his compatriot, Gomes, at Molineux.
