Fiorentina will do everything in their power to keep hold of Sofyan Amrabat in January, despite increasing pressure from Liverpool.
That’s according to Corriere Fiorentino, who say sources ‘very close to the player’ believe an offer from Liverpool ‘could soon’ arrive in Italy.
Amrabat was one of the stars of the World Cup, playing a key role in Morocco’s run to the semi-finals of the tournament with a series of impressive performances.
That has put him on the world stage and there is a growing race for his signature as a result, with several big sides in Europe thought to be keen.
Liverpool are one of those to have been linked as Jurgen Klopp is keen to improve his midfield, having admitted late in the summer that it was a mistake not to add in that position.
Corriere Fiorentino cover their interest and report that while the alarm has ‘not yet gone off’ in the Viola house, they are ‘preparing’ for bids for their stars.
Amrabat is earning ‘a lot of attention’ following his performances in Qatar and Liverpool are one of the clubs who are ‘about him’.
That courtship is quickly picking up pace, and according to what has filtered through from ‘circles very close to the player’ they ‘could soon’ present a proposal ‘not far from €40m’.
That is an offer which, if ever made official, would come very close to the figures that would make Fiorentina ‘falter’ in their resolve to keep the midfielder.
At the moment, their president is decided to ignore offers and stick it out until the summer, when a release clause kicks in and gives the Italian side more power in negotiations.
The feeling in Italy, though, is that Liverpool want to test Fiorentina’s resolve before then.
