Manuel Pellegrini hasn’t done a bad job at West Ham.
The Premier League club spent a great deal last summer, but have been hit repeatedly by injuries. There seems to be a plan under the manager, and the club appears to be relatively calm and settled.
Shaking all that up by sacking him would be a very odd move to make.
And yet, that’s suggested as possibility by Mundo Deportivo as they cover West Ham interest in Guillermo Maripán.
The defender has a €25m buyout clause in his Alaves contract, and has been linked to the Hammers repeatedly. He’s Chilean, just like Pellegrini, and the Spanish newspaper states a West Ham approach will have to wait.
They explain that’s because Pellegrini’s ‘continuity is not clear’ at the London club, with the insinuation being the interest is totally down to the manager.
That makes the claims wobbly, but West Ham interest in the player makes some sense.
