Giovanni Simeone signed for Hellas Verona in August on a season long loan deal from Cagliari.

There’s an option to make the move permanent for around €12m. That figure was considered high at the time of the transfer, and there was initially doubt over whether Hellas Verona would go through with it.

However, the situation has been changing, with Calciomercato saying Simeone has been the ‘surprise of the year’, proving to be an important player and attracting interest from elsewhere.

When it comes to explaining the interest, the report states ‘particularly Newcastle’, and it’s explained Eddie Howe’s side have been in contact to find out the situation around the player.

Simeone has scored 15 Serie A goals so far this season, and also added four assists. As well as a mention for Newcastle United, possible interest from Giovanni’s father, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, is also mentioned, although that feels like a guess more than anything.

Indeed, Giovanni Simeone may find that when the summer comes, Newcastle United will be looking at bigger stars for their ambitious plans.

Hellas Verona could use their option and then try to make a quick profit.
