For the past week, we’ve been covering the stories which linked Benfica defender Ruben Dias to a couple of Premier League clubs.
It started when the Eagles played Aves earlier this month, with the local media reporting that Arsenal and Manchester United had sent scouts to watch the player.
On Monday, newspaper Record came up with a story saying that €40m would be enough to take him, as Benfica would even be after a defender to replace Dias in the summer window.
But the club was quick to dismiss that. Because now, Record comes up with another story, this time mentioning an ‘official source’ from the Eagles, who claimed that they have no intention of selling Dias.
It’s funny because Record insist in the idea saying that some millions will convince the club to sell. Even with the headline claiming that the intention is to hold him.
Arsenal and Manchester United are still to get a mention from Record. The newspaper only continues to claim that there are ‘English’ clubs interested, so Correio da Manhã is still the only one to know something about the Gunners’ and the Red Devils’ pursuit for the player.
It could be that Benfica wanted the story of a possible sale out there, but felt the original reports made them sound a little too keen.
