Alfredo Morelos was today presented by Santos, with whom he signed a two-year contract after his Rangers exit.
The striker didn’t have a great time at Rangers last season under Michael Beale and as his time contract at Ibrox came to an end, so did his time in Glasgow.
The player had been a free agent since the end of his commitment with Rangers, and following many rumours about his next destination, he decided to land in Brazil.
Morelos held a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, and talked a lot about his choice to play for Santos. The quotes are relayed by Globo Esporte.
Speaking of his final season with Rangers, Morelos claimed he couldn’t play as much as he wanted to, but still managed to help them with some goals.
The striker claims to be satisfied with his work in Europe, where besides playing for Rangers, he also belonged to HJK Helsinki.
“I’ve done well in European tournaments. I’m very proud of that. It was something beautiful for me. Now I’m living a new stage.”
Morelos was signed by Rangers in a €1.2m deal from the Finnish side in 2017. In six years at the club, he had 124 goals in 269 appearances.
Now he finds himself in a complicated situation, as Santos are one of the few clubs who have never fallen to the second division in Brazil, and currently stand in the relegation zone.
He’s hopeful he can help them with that.
“The decision to come to Santos was important for my career. I’d been in Europe for six seasons. The Brazilian league is very important. It will obviously help me grow as a footballer. I’ve signed a two-year contract and I hope to do really well here. We know that Santos are in a bad situation, but we’re going after the goal of getting the team out of the bottom half of the table.”
