Liverpool’s ‘outrage’ over missing out on Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo to Chelsea has turned to joy as their own transfers are now working out better.
That’s according to SportBILD, who cover the transfer battle between the two clubs today and how Liverpool might have come out the better from it.
Liverpool and Chelsea battled for the signings of Caicedo and Lavia later on in the transfer window, with both offering big sums to get both players.
It ended up in a transfer tussle between the two, with both players flip flopping between Anfield and Stamford Bridge over a turbulent few weeks.
They both ended up at the latter in the end, with Chelsea paying big fees for both and convincing them to ignore the interest from the Reds.
SportBILD say that caused ‘outrage’ at Liverpool, who ‘were laughed at’ over the failure to sign either player despite a big effort to get them. ‘Now Liverpool is laughing’, though, with the transfers they actually did working out very well for them while Caicedo and Lavia are yet to make a mark in London.
The belief, at least in SportBILD, is that ‘they changed into the wrong jersey’ and while Jurgen Klopp is building a team, Chelsea are the opposite.
They believe the American owner simply ‘gets whatever is promising for others’ and he showed that by signing Caicedo and Lavia, who were wanted by Liverpool, as well as Mykhaylo Mudryk, who they moved to sign ahead of Arsenal.
On the flip side, Klopp is key to signings at Anfield and ‘pays attention’ to styles and whether characters fit together.
This has been demonstrated by the signing of Dominik Szoboszlai, whose €70m arrival was questioned at first but is now ‘being celebrated’. He’s been starring since day one at Anfield and looks like he has ‘been there for years.’
It’s all positive news for the Reds, who SportBILD believe may have actually benefitted from the battle with Chelsea and their subsequent defeat. On the flip side, those that went to Stamford Bridge may now ‘really regret it’.
