Manchester City are in the picture to sign Barcelona star Alejandro Balde, according to Sport.

The left-back’s displays, growth and style of play has drawn the attention of Manchester City and other English clubs.

The La Liga side have struggled with their finances over the last few years and the situation isn’t going to be different after this season.

Sport state Xavi Hernández’s side will have to sell some of their players ‘no matter what’ and this has seen Balde’s agent, Jorge Mendes, step in. The latter has conveyed to Barca that he could possibly carry out a big sale involving his client next summer.

Manchester City are one of the clubs said to have shown interest in the Spain international, who signed a new deal [until 2028] back in September with a €1bn release clause.

It’s claimed the treble winners have been informed about the 20-year-old’s situation and could jump in if the Blaugrana have to ‘make money’ through Balde’s sale.

Manchester City’s João Cancelo is on loan at the Camp Nou and the Spainish giants have made it clear they want to retain him.

Sport state the Citizens ‘will enter into negotiations’ with Barca, who ‘will not have too many tricks up its sleeve’ to buy Cancelo.  Therefore, a swap deal is ‘not ruled out’, with Manchester City offering money plus the Portugal international in exchange for Balde.

This would all be very convenient for Barcelona, and it feels like these claims have been somewhat embellished by the Catalan newspaper.
