If you’ve been keeping track of Manchester United’s trip to AZ Alkmaar this week, you’ll know the plastic pitch has caused something of a stir.
Alkmaar are currently playing at the Cars Jeans Stadion in The Hague after the roof at their ground, the AFAS Stadium, collapsed earlier this year.
The Cars Jeans Stadion is home to a plastic pitch, and that’s something the English media, and United, aren’t particularly happy about.
Reports in England had stated the pitch was the worst in the Netherlands, something the Dutch media weren’t having and hit back at earlier this week.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær added fire to the fuel in his press conference yesterday, claiming ‘it’s one of the worst one I’ve seen for a long while’ when asked about the issue.
The pitch was once again a hot topic when Ron Vlaar sat down for an interview with De Telegraaf about the upcoming clash with Manchester United.
He, though, has no sympathy for the Premier League side, instead insisting they’ll have to get on with things as he and his teammates did.
“United will have to adjust, just like we did”, he told the newspaper.
“We also prefer to play in Alkmaar. But it is clear that they are much less used to artificial turf than we are, although they also played against Young Boys a year ago and won.
“Oh well, they just (have to) figure it out, it’s not our problem.”
