Allegedly a target for Tottenham in January, Jordan Veretout has returned in the transfer rumour mill as he appears to be on his way out from AS Roma.

This led the English media to bring back Spurs into the mix, but some in Italy, mostly agent Vincenzo Morabito, believe that a move to London isn’t on the cards for the midfielder.

After all, Tottenham have already spent a lot of money on the transfer market this summer, and while a new midfielder wouldn’t go amiss in Antonio Conte’s squad, they first need to offload other players, such as Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele.

The pair spent the second half of last season on loan at Villarreal and Lyon respectively with different levels of success, but they are yet to find another solution to their problem this summer.

That’s why, at least for now, a move for Veretout appears off the cards.

Morabito, speaking to TMW Radio, said: “For me, he is not a player for Conte at Tottenham, who have already spent a lot.”

Spurs have already forked out £90m on Richarlison, Yves Bissouma and Djed Spence, having also brought in Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster on free transfers.

If that wasn’t enough, they also added Clément Lenglet on loan from Barcelona, meaning that until they trim down their squad a bit, new arrivals might be put on hold for now.
