Atalanta midfielder Ederson has drawn interest from Newcastle United, according to claims from Italy.

TuttoMercatoWeb today writes that with ‘excellent performances’, the 24-year-old is being watched by several clubs, ‘especially’ the Magpies.

Newcastle will be missing Sandro Tonali for the rest of the season, and Ederson could show up as an option for Eddie Howe.

The big problem is that Atalanta plan to make a big request for his sale. They want €40m, which is considered ‘out of market’ for Italian clubs, but not that impossible for Premier League sides.

The fee ‘is not peanuts’, although it’s obviously within reach of the Magpies.

There’s big confidence that the Serie A side would not sell Ederson in January, unless someone comes up with ‘crazy offers’. They mention Manchester United’s effort to sign Rasmus Hojlund as the kind of operation the Italian club could not say no to.

Ederson is a central midfielder, but has been a big contribution to Atalanta’s attack this season, with five goals and one assist in 16 appearances. He’s valued by Transfermarkt at €20m, and we’ll see whether Newcastle will make a convincing offer to land him.
