Liverpool are keen on signing Southampton’s Roméo Lavia and have already seen offers turned down by the Saints.

Two days ago, journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported Southampton are requesting £40m for their star. He also said the Reds are ready to make their ‘third and ultimate’ offer.

Southampton face Sheffield Wednesday in the first league tie of the season this evening.

Tavolieri took to Twitter to state he’s got confirmation that Russell Martin will include the Liverpool target in his squad. This would indicate there will be ‘no imminent transfer today’ for the 19-year-old.

Therefore, Jürgen Klopp’s side will have to have wait a little longer to bring the Belgium international to Anfield.

Liverpool have seen Jordan Henderson and Fabinho move to Saudi Arabia this summer after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keïta and James Milner were released at the end of last season.

The Reds have added Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to their squad and are still in the market to sign at least one midfielder. This is where Lavia would fit in.

After Southampton included him in the squad for Saturday’s clash, Liverpool perhaps have to improve their offer to secure the Belgian’s services.

Should they be concerned that him playing could present an injury risk, then that offer needs to arrive very quickly indeed.
