Everton’s Amadou Onana was subject to interest from Arsenal and Chelsea in the winter market.
Earlier this year, Het Nieuwsblad explained Arsenal and Chelsea tried to sign the 21-year-old and the Toffees showed willingness to negotiate a sale in January.
Foot Mercato had also stated Chelsea even made an offer but didn’t mention anything about Arsenal. The midfielder didn’t leave Everton and is currently focused on helping them finish the season outside the relegation zone.
Het Nieuwsblad published a lengthy interview with the Belgium international, where they pointed out West Ham were also willing to pay €40m for his services last summer.
“They probably saw my potential. Clubs at this level are not stupid. I felt ready to take the step myself. It was the right time. Timing is crucial. Just like the sporty picture.For that reason, I refused Almeria a few years ago. It wasn’t the right move,” he said.
When pressed about these links, the Everton player’s agent said: “No comment. We can’t say anything meaningful about the next window either.”
Arsenal finished the January window by signing Jorginho from Chelsea while the Blues replaced him with Enzo Fernández on deadline day.
