Even though it’s been a while since we last saw Newcastle United linked to Flamengo midfielder Matheus França, those rumours are back in the Brazilian media.

They were first resurrected by journalist Julio Miguel Neto, who says the Magpies ‘do not give up’ on signing the 19-year-old.

It’s reported that Newcastle had already claimed they wouldn’t raise their old €20m bid. Now, however, they want to put €22.5m on the table.

That may still not be enough to convince Flamengo, though, as the Rio de Janeiro club want €25m to see França gone.

Following that report, Lance, who are a major outlet, also turned up with an update on the youngster’s situation.

They claim Flamengo are ‘confident’ there’ll be a good bid for França in the summer window.

Lance recall Newcastle’s €20m bid, but don’t bring any information on a potential new offer from the Magpies.

It’s only claimed that Flamengo demand €25m for the sale, but it’s also added that the request could be lower in case the offer ‘pleases’ the player’s staff.
