Newcastle United ‘not considered up to par’ by player – Magpies offer the best

Performing well at a summer tournament usually shouldn’t be the sole basis for building or killing a transfer, but it can be informative.

Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili has cemented his value with good performances for Georgia, and even performed well in Sunday’s 4-1 defeat to Spain. That will be brilliant news for Valencia.

Federico Chiesa is at the other end of the spectrum, and Calciomercato bring Newcastle United interest in again. It feels like Chiesa has been waiting for a huge transfer that his performances don’t really deserve, or a mega-salary from Juventus which falls into the same bracket.

Italy had a terrible Euro 2024 and Chiesa wasn’t exactly a shining light. He contributed little, like most of his teammates, as Italy looked toothless in attack.

Calciomercato say only AS Roma and Fiorentina remain in the picture, for the Euro 2024 ‘disappointment’. Newcastle United are said to have made a better offer to the player, who has a year left on his current deal, but they’re ‘not considered up to par’ by the player himself.
