Newcastle United are now the latest competitors to sign Tiemoue Bakayoko, according to claims from Italy.

Calcio Mercato today features a short piece saying the Magpies joined the likes of Monza and Nottingham Forest in the battle for the 28-year-old.

It’s said Newcastle are looking ‘for a profile of experience’ to reinforce their midfield, and have now set sights on the player who’s ‘leaving Milan’ in the final days of the market.

Bakayoko lives a confusing situation as he belongs to Chelsea, but is loaned to the Rossoneri until 2023, in a spell that could become permanent in case some conditions are met.

AC Milan are clearly not keen on keeping him, and that’s why it’d be no problem for them to see him move somewhere else this summer.

Calcio Mercato points out that club chiefs Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara want to give up on the loan one year early, so Newcastle would negotiate for Bakayoko directly with Chelsea.

For now, there’s no information on whether the Magpies are interested in landing the midfielder on a loan or permanent deal.
