FutbolArena have reported Fenerbahçe are interested in Newcastle United’s Siem de Jong. It’s been claimed Fenerbahce legend Pierre van Hooijdonk has told the Turkish club the Newcastle United player could be the solution for the club’s ongoing problems in midfield.
Fenerbahce have struggled all season creating chances, which has frustrated manager Dick Advocaat. The Dutchman realises the club needs to add quality to midfield this summer, and the Newcastle United outcast is an option.
Van Hooijdonk believes the player he has no future at St James Park under Rafael Benitez and that he’d be a decent addition to the Fenerbahce squad. Former Ajax captain De Jong spent the season on loan at PSV Eindhoven, and managed to score six goals in 19 appearances.
It’s been also reported PSV are not looking to exercise their right of redemption for De Jong, and the Turkish report claims Newcastle would be open to another loan. De Jong is currently under contract at Newcastle United until 2020.
