It looks like Newcastle United won’t have much of a hard job in case they try to sign Marrony from Vasco da Gama.
Since it’s been claimed that Steve Nickson watched and approved the player, some Brazilian outlets have been reporting how much the Rio de Janeiro side want to sell him for.
First, journalist Jorge Nicola said Vasco would demand €16m for their 70% share, and a deal would cost a little over €18m.
Since the player is protected by a €35m release clause, that sounds like a fair price for a club who are in need of money.
The club’s idea would be to make over R$50m (€12m), so perhaps Marrony could be even cheaper than first reported.
UOL adds that the player has been approached by Newcastle, Porto, ‘and other clubs’. After scoring an important goal against Palmeiras last weekend, he said nothing has come directly to him so far.
“I spoke to my agents yesterday and today, and nothing has come, but if it comes and it’s good for me and Vasco, then it depends on their will. I keep my thoughts here and just think of helping Vasco.”
