Rafael Benitez signed Joselu Mato, commonly known as Joselu, for Newcastle United from Stoke City in 2017.
The striker joined the Tyneside club on a three-year deal and his current deal expires in 2020.
Under the guidance of the former Liverpool manager, the 29-year-old has been restricted to just five starts in the league and three more appearances in the FA Cup. Despite limited playing time, he managed to score three goals.
Since he has just over a year left on the contract at St James’ Park and isn’t featuring all that much, the player is attracting ‘interest’ from Alaves, according to AS.
Lucas Perez of West Ham United is also on the radar of the La Liga side and the Newcastle player is now included in the list of the transfer targets.
The newspaper does not state if Joselu is keen on joining Alaves or the transfer fee they would be willing to pay the English side to acquire the frontman’s services.
Having struggled at Newcastle, a move away from the club seems like a better option for Joselu, and it wouldn’t come as a shock if the Magpies accepted to make a loss on the forward if they had to.
