RB Salzburg forward Noah Okafor would like to leave the club this summer, with Newcastle United one of the interested parties.

Okafor has been with Salzburg since joining from FC Basel in a £10.08m deal in January 2020 and, like many youngsters at the Austrian club, has enjoyed steady growth since.

His tally of 22 goals and 13 assists in 70 games is not to be sniffed at, and a report from SportBILD last month indicated Newcastle are one of several clubs eyeing up a move.

That stated the Magpies were ‘interested’ in the player and could make a move in the summer as part of their likely busy transfer window.

Sport 1 now pick up on that and state that Okafor could be the next of the ‘mega-talents’ to ‘make the leap’ from Austria to the Bundesliga in Germany.

Now there’s no mention of Newcastle here, but they do say that ‘several clubs’ from Germany and England are interested in the 21-year-old.

Nothing is ‘concrete’ as yet, but one thing is clear, Okafor would like to ‘take the next step’ after two years in Salzburg.

His deal with the club runs until 2024, and there is no exit clause, so the Austrian side have no pressure on them to sell at this point.

However, they would be open to a deal for the right price and want ‘at least’ €25m if they are to let him go.

That’s the price Newcastle will have to match, then, if they decide to turn their interest into something concrete this summer.
