Newcastle United are one of several club considering taking Noah Okafor away from Red Bull Salzburg in the summer, according to SportBild.

The forward joined the Austrian champions from FC Basel in January 2020 and has so far managed 22 goals and 13 assists from 69 matches in all competitions, with 12 goals and six assists coming from this campaign.

Red Bull Salzburg have been used as a stepping stone by various players in the past and it’s helped the club raise money through sales over the last decade or so. That is discussed in this week’s edition of SportBild, with the outlet focusing on those players who could be allowed to leave in the summer.

Okafor is among them and the Magpies, Hertha Berlin, Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and Inter Milan are all ‘interested’ in him.

The Switzerland international has over two years left on his current deal and is valued at €12m. His manager, Matthias Jaissle, is delighted with the improvement shown by the 21-year-old this season.

“He’s a complete striker, very good with his back to the opposing goal, has a great start and a strong technique,” Jaissle said.

“In the past few months, he has developed very rapidly and is far from finished. Since he understood that you have to invest something in your career, he has been very diligent. That will be rewarded.”

Last month, 20 Minuten reported the Tyneside club looked at Okafor before they signed Chris Wood for Burnley.

The outlet had also ruled out a January move for the Swiss striker, but did stress he could ‘become a topic for many big clubs’ in the summer.
