Newcastle United have been warned they may need a ‘huge amount’ to sign Feyenoord star Orkun Kökçü this summer.

That’s according to journalist Dennis van Eersel, who does however believe that the midfielder will be moving in the summer transfer window.

Kökçü has been in fine form for the Dutch side this season, bagging 12 goals and four assists in 39 games in all competitions to date.

That’s led to increased interest in him, with the player having long been linked to the Premier League, and several clubs still believed to be looking at him.

Newcastle are one of them, with a recent report stating that they are ‘regular visitors’ to the Netherlands to watch him play.

They’re yet to make their move and in the meantime Kökçü has continued to impress, with another excellent performance in the win over AS Roma last night earning him plenty of plaudits.

One of those was Van Eersel, who has warned suitors such as Newcastle that they’ll need to spend big if they want to secure his signature.

“If you can be such a dominant presence against such an opponent, that’s clever,” FR 12 report him saying on RTV Rijnmond.

“He is the patron, the leader of this team. Of course, he will leave after this season, but for a huge amount. It would not be crazy at all if he brings in a record amount for Feyenoord.”
