Following claims on Thursday that Arsenal had already made a first move to try and sign Aaron Hickey from Bologna, Friday sees Newcastle United added to the list of suitors.

West Ham’s interest was already known, but the inclusion of the Magpies makes sense, since after bolstering the right hand side of their defence in January, the left is next on the list.

Gazzetta dello Sport have an article on the matter, claiming that over at Bologna, ‘it’s certainly Aaron Hickey who attracts the most attention, with Arsenal appearing ready to increase the pressure to take him to London by making him follow the same path’ as Takehiro Tomiyasu.

There has been talk of a €25m bid from the Gunners, which is described as a figure to which the Serie A side ‘will hardly be able to say no’.

However, Arsenal aren’t the only team on the case, ‘with Brentford and above all Newcastle ready to enter the contest’.

With the Magpies ready to spend big this summer to keep growing in the Premier League, a fee of €25m shouldn’t be too difficult for them to match.

It would then be up to Hickey himself to decide whether London or Newcastle is the best option for him going forward.
