Alessio Romagnoli has captained AC Milan every time he has started for the Italian club this season. He’s made 25 appearances, which includes 22 starts.

The defender’s future at the San Siro beyond this season remains uncertain as his current deal will expire in June. His situation with the Rossoneri has caught the attention of clubs in Italy and abroad, including Newcastle United.

Lazio has long been named as the 27-year-old’s next potential destination, but they are not alone as Maurizio Sarri’s side are joined by the Magpies.

According to Calciomercato, the centre-back has received ‘several requests’ to change clubs in the next window. ‘In recent days’, Eddie Howe’s side have ‘tried’ to sign the former AS Roma man.

Although Newcastle made an approach, the report explains the ‘most important’ track for the Italy international ‘leads to Lazio’.

With a contract expiring at the end of the season, there are ‘very few chances to stay at Milan’ for Romagnoli.

Lazio seem to be ahead, but if the Premier League side were to step up their efforts, they may stand a chance to overtake Sarri’s side to secure Romagnoli’s signature in the summer.
