As Portuguese side Sporting get prepared for the summer market, Newcastle United today get a double mention in a story from the Lisbon media.

We’re talking about a piece from newspaper Record which explains the Lions’ need to make a couple of sales in the next transfer window.

There it’s claimed that in order to reinvest in their squad, Sporting need at least €40-50m by negotiating exits.

There are two footballers who are said to be in ‘pole’ position to be sold. Those are Gonçalo Inácio and Manuel Ugarte, and both are said to be wanted by Newcastle.

Record makes it clear that Sporting’s intention is to negotiate them for amounts close to their release clause. That means the defender’s price tag is €45m, while the midfielder’s is €60m.

The Lions are said to be interested in raising both clauses by giving them new contracts. So that’s another reason for Newcastle to move fast.

For Inácio, the Magpies should have competition from Manchester United, while for Ugarte, it’s Tottenham who are set to fight for his signing.
