Just under a couple of weeks ago, L’Equipe announced that Everton were after one of Nantes’ young prodigies in Kamal Bafounta.

The midfielder has yet to sign his first professional contract with the Ligue 1 side, and could leave the club at the end of the season for very little, hence the interest from abroad.

Everton were said to have ‘concretely positioned’ themselves by contacting the 16-year-old’s entourage, but they aren’t the only ones.

The very same newspaper on Monday state that Borussia Dortmund have also come knocking, who have gone a step further than the Toffees by inviting Bafounta’s family to visit the club’s infrastructure.

It appears they did a good job of impressing them, as L’Equipe explain the Bundesliga side now appear to ‘be in the lead’ to sign the youngster, with Nantes now aware ‘it will be complicated’ to convince him to stay in France.

Everton and Steve Walsh might need to move quickly if they really are interested in Bafounta.
