Ruben Vinagre’s name may not be the most commented on at Wolverhampton Wanderers these days, but his future continues to be a hot topic in the Portuguese media.
Monday sees a couple of newspapers speaking of the 22-year-old, who’s now returning to Molineux following a loan spell at Famalicão.
There are two clubs who are said to be interested in his signing this summer. One of them is Benfica, and their chase has been reported on by the local media for over a month now.
A Bola writes today that the Eagles may sell Nuno Tavares in the summer, and in case the move is confirmed, they’d like to have Vinagre to replace him.
Now we see another Lisbon side has joined the race for the Wolves player, and that’s Sporting.
This story comes from Record, who say the Lions are currently negotiating the renewal of Pedro Gonçalves, and are taking the talks with agent Jorge Pires to speak about Vinagre as well.
It’s said the move is ‘being negotiated’, but will only happen in case Sporting sell left-back Nuno Mendes this summer. In case the wonderkid goes, then part of the money will be used to replace him.
Record points out Vinagre wants to join a Portuguese side with conditions to fight for titles, and since he’s used to playing in a system with three central defenders, he’d be ready to join Ruben Amorim’s formation at the Lions.
None of the stories say how much Wolves are demanding for Vinagre’s departure.
