Brazilian reporters in England are starting to get more access to post-matches interviews, meaning the Brazilian or Portuguese players and managers have the chance to say something in their own language, making everything more comfortable.
Manchester United boss José Mourinho is one of them, and has been very relaxed in his interviews with ESPN Brasil.
Questioned if Manchester United’s position in the table is fair, the Portuguese boss told ESPN Brasil: “No, no. Manchester [United] play well. We deserve to win. And we’ve won few times. We’ve lost a lot of points with draws. Today could have been a game like those, where we played, we were better, we had goal ruled off, we had an unpunished penalty. And we always fight to win and play with a lot of quality.
“Today we were happier than in the other games, we managed to score the second goal, get the three points, which leaves us still in the position that is not ours, but that brings us closer and leaves us with the possibility of returning to better positions.”
Mourinho was also asked about Wayne Rooney’s performance and said: “He is a player who fights, who leaves everything in the pitch, tries to help the team in all the circumstances. Today he was unfortunate to have a fantastic shot where the goalkeeper makes maybe the save of the night. And he works for the team. He is not twenty years old anymore, he’s entered the 30s. It happens to everyone. But he is a crucial player. Even when he doesn’t play, he is a crucial player for us.”
Despite the win, Manchester United’s situation in the Premier League didn’t change much. They’re still in sixth place on the table, 13 points behind the leaders Chelsea.
