If El Confidencial in Spain are to be believed, José Mourinho could have an easy job available to him were he to one day leave Old Trafford.
Whether that will be his decision or the club’s remains to be seen, but the Spanish newspaper claim that Florentino Pérez wouldn’t be against having him back at Real Madrid in the future.
The La Liga champions’ president is said to have been against the current Manchester United manager’s decision to leave the club after the defeat against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League in 2013, as he would have liked him to continue, despite the poor season they were enduring.
Since then, the two have continued to keep in touch, with El Confidencial claiming Mourinho was one of the first to congratulate Perez last season when Real Madrid once again won the elite European competition.
El Confidencial claim it’s an ‘open secret’ that Perez dreams of a Mourinho return at Real Madrid, but this would only happen when there are no traces of his ‘intimate enemies’ in Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos left at the club.
Before any of this happens, however, the Manchester United adventure will need to end, and considering Ed Woodward and the rest of the club are described as willing to ‘go to the death’ with him, it might not be anytime soon.
Of course, it all depends on results, and while the Premier League might be out of reach this season, there’s still the FA Cup and Champions League to play for.
As well as whatever happens next season after another summer of likely heavy spending.
