There is no denying that one of the players at Tottenham who got on best with José Mourinho was Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.

The Dane was a key part of the Portuguese manager’s time at Spurs, which is why it wasn’t surprising to see him linked with a move to AS Roma when the Special One took over there.

Well, with Mourinho still in need of a midfielder capable of dictating play from deep, Højbjerg’s name comes up once again, with Il Romanista bringing it to the fore as they list the five players being looked at by the Serie A side.

They explain the arrival of Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus ‘seems to be a message’ that Tottenham could ‘put him up for sale’, although that seems to be more out of hope than anything else.

He has a contract expiring in 2025, ‘an important agent like Pini Zahavi’ and an annual wage of around €6m.

Those numbers ‘aren’t exactly a health walk’ for AS Roma, meaning they are quite difficult for the Italian side to match, putting Højbjerg among the dream signings for the club rather than realistic ones.

That being said, the club are ready to back Mourinho, and with the Denmark international having characteristics the manager ‘likes a lot’, who knows what can happen?
