Arsenal have helped their long term future in central defence by signing William Saliba from Saint Etienne this summer.

The youngster was much wanted and, at least as far as the French media are concerned, the Gunners beat their local rivals Tottenham to the player’s signature.

The problem for them is that he’s not going to arrive until the summer 2020 transfer window, spending the next season on loan at ASSE.

Therefore, there’s still something of an issue in central defence. Many Arsenal fans wouldn’t be too upset to see the back of Shkodran Mustafi, but they’d likely need to get a body in to cover.

L’Equipe report AS Monaco have interest of some level. The French principality club have ‘asked for information’ about signing the defender, although it’s clearly not gone further than that at this stage.

The French newspaper believe his valuation is €30m, which sounds positive for Arsenal but it’s unlikely Monaco will pay that any time soon, partly because they ‘need cash’ first.
