After Pedro Caixinha took his job as manager of Rangers, there were quite a few signings under his request, including four players from his home country Portugal and two from Mexico, where he worked for years.

From Portugal there was Bruno Alves, Dalcio, Daniel Candeias and Fabio Cardoso.

And then there’s Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera, both followed closely in the Scottish Premiership by the Mexican press.

And now that the manager has been sacked by Rangers, there are outlets already wondering if the duo will last much longer at Ibrox.

Mexican outlet Univision bring a headline today saying ‘Pedro Caixinha was fired from Rangers and the return of ‘Gullit’ and Herrera gets closer’.

They don’t have any real information on a possible destination for both players, but put their stay in doubt saying they will be ‘under a magnifier’, and have to convince any new manager perhaps more than most.

If the media is wondering about this, local clubs will certainly start showing interest as well, so it will be up Rangers and Peña and Herrera to decide if it’s worth staying together without Caixinha.
