Any chance of Everton landing Bas Dost continues to shrink. Whether it be in the winter transfer window or at the end of the season.

This time, the story which discourages a transfer isn’t even about prices or competition: it’s the striker’s form that seems too good to find a bargain.

Portuguese newspaper Record claims the player is very focused on making the best season of his career, surpassing the last one, when he scored 37 goals.

Dost has scored eight times in the past six games, and already has a total of 13 goals in 19 appearances this season.

The Everton link grew with a report about the interest in early October, although the local press doubted the Toffees were prepared to pay enough money for him in the January window.

Now building a great season, which already seems to be happening, will definitely make things harder for whoever wants to sign him next summer.

Record recalls that England is still the most likely destination for him, saying he’s been drawing ‘the interest from several European clubs, especially in the Premier League, a league where his characteristics are especially appreciated and appropriate’.

But his €60m release clause is enough to protect him well, and his recent quotes saying he would like to win the title at Sporting before leaving makes the club very calm about it.

So it seems Everton will have to wait, and maybe prepare their pockets. Because if things keep going as they are, Dost definitely won’t leave for less than €50m.
