Carlos ‘Gullit’ Peña’s move to Rangers looks like it’s actually going to happen. Pedro Caixinha identified the Chivas Guadalajara midfielder, and Rangers didn’t waste any time in making an approach.

On Tuesday we covered comments from Chivas director José Luís Higuera, who said: “There’s an agreement about Gullit Peña with Rangers from Scotland.”

Now there’s more.

Chivas manager Matías Almeyda has also pretty much confirmed the Rangers transfer is close, quoted by Claro as saying: “I think it’s almost closed, ‘Gullit’ is going to be sold to Scottish football and hopefully can have the experience of playing in another league and in another country. It will help him a lot to grow as a player and as a person.”

Almeyda said the Ibrox arrival is ‘almost certain’, before adding: “I have given a letter a few days ago recommending him, that he can succeed in that football.”

The letter claim is curious, perhaps it’s work permit related.

Peña looks like he’s going to end up at Rangers, and Caixinha will hope he can help the Mexican be a success in the Scottish Premiership.
