Manchester United loanee Alvaro Carreras is still to impress in his loan at Benfica, with the Portuguese media recently pointing out he’s been struggling to win a place in the team.
Still, the international break may work for him to get some fresh air while playing for Spain’s U-21 side, and return to Lisbon with a new mindset.
This situation is today highlighted by newspaper Record, who claim that Carreras has ‘decided he wants to convince’ in the final months of his spell at Benfica.
It’s said the Manchester United youngster ‘isn’t throwing in the towel’ just yet, as he believes he can have good enough performances to convince the Eagles to invest in his permanent signing.
There’s a clause in the contract which says that in case Carreras plays in 50% of the matches, then Benfica would need to pay the Red Devils €6m for his permanent transfer.
However, the player is said to be ignoring that clause, as he wants to convince the Eagles that they should invest for what he’s shown, and not because of an obligation.Record explains that his mission at Benfica ‘seemed easier’ as there wasn’t much competition for the left-back spot. But, so far, the Manchester United player is still struggling to show his best.
