France’s medical team are keeping a close eye on Manchester United defender Raphaël Varane as he became the latest player in the team to be ‘affected’ by a virus ravaging the squad.

L’Equipe report that Varane and Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté are the latest in a growing list of players in France’s squad that have been struck down by the virus ahead of the World Cup final on Sunday.

Adrien Rabiot an Dayot Upamecano were the first players to fall foul of the virus, missing the semi-final against Morocco on Wednesday as a result.

They were soon joined by Kingsley Coman, who was placed in isolation in an attempt to stop more players picking up the illness.

That does not seem to have worked, though, as Manchester United’s Varane and Konaté have now ‘fallen victim’ to it.

The situation is being ‘closely monitored’ by France’s medical team in the coming hours, particularly as they have a training sessions scheduled for 6pm on Friday.

The hope is that the Manchester United star will be allowed to feature in that, but if he cannot, it may put his starting role in the World Cup final on Sunday in serious doubt.
