Chris Smalling’s agent has ‘booked a flight’ to Rome this afternoon ahead of the player’s impending move from Manchester United.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who say the defender’s willingness to lower his wage demands has helped to make a move happen.
Smalling has been linked with a return to the Serie A side all summer, having spent a highly productive loan spell with them last season.
Negotiations between the two clubs have been ongoing for months without any success, with them disagreeing on an asking price.
Calciomercato have now further added to the positivity, stating that Smalling’s agent has booked a flight to Rome for this afternoon, which would suggest that all parties feel a deal is now close to completion.
The website adds that the player and his agent have helped the club get closer to an agreement as Smalling is ‘willing to reduce’ his wage demands while his agent has also agreed to reduce his ‘commissions’ to make things happen.
Smalling, then, is scheduled to travel to Rome today and unless there’s another twist – don’t bet that there won’t be – this one should finally be over.
